Q: Does URecover run on Windows Server 2003 or XP?

A: Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP use an older backup technology called NTBACKUP. NTBACKUP is a file-based backup utility that can catalog and select individual files for restore to an alternate location. URecover is not needed because NTBACKUP already provides similar capability.

Windows Server 2003 adds the ability to create Shadow Copy (Previous Version) snapshots. URecover can mount these snapshots as disk letters. URecover can also mount VHD files. XP does not have persistent snapshots. URecover can only mount VHD files on XP.

Q: Does URecover run on Windows Server?

A: Yes. URecover runs on Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2. It also runs on Windows Server 2003, subject to the limitations indicated above.

Q: Does URecover run on Server Core?

A: No. URecover requires a graphical user interface. Therefore URecover does not run on Server Core. If the server shares files on the network you can run URecover on another computer to remotely mount the VHD or System Backup on the server through the network.
