Moving Small Business Server

Windows Small Business Server (SBS) is a low-cost edition of Windows Server that is designed for small businesses. SBS includes several pre-installed server applications. The applications typically include Exchange, IIS, SharePoint, and SQL Server.

When SBS is your only domain controller there is no way to protect Active Directory against the failure of the SBS computer. Microsoft does not support restoring the System State backup from one computer to a second computer of a different make, model, or hardware configuration (KB249694).

One SBS Domain Controller

You are generally limited to one SBS domain controller in the AD forest, per KB295765 and KB884453. Intended for small organizations, the SBS server is typically the only domain controller for the whole organization.
