Moving Terminal Services Licenses
The Terminal Service Licensing database keeps track of Terminal Services Client Application Licenses (TSCALs). Each remote user or remote computer that accesses Terminal Services requires a TSCAL.
Windows Server 2008: Terminal Services was renamed “Remote Desktop Services” (RDS) on Windows Server 2008. This document uses “Terminal Services” to refer to both TS and RDS.
Activating Terminal Services Licensing
When you install Terminal Services, you have 120 days in which to contact Microsoft to activate your Terminal Services Licensing Server.
When moving Active Directory, UMove can optionally also move the Terminal Services license information to your replacement computer. This includes the activation status of your Terminal Services Licensing Server and your TSCAL database.
Because of the danger of losing your TSCAL database (and disrupting your users access to Terminal Services) UMove will move the Terminal Services Licensing database by default.
