Moving COM+

COM+ is the advanced follow-on to the Component Object Model (COM). COM is used to connect software components in an object-oriented framework. COM+ is used for remote activation of COM objects over a network (Distributed COM) and for creating an activation security context for a web site in Internet Information Services (IIS).

COM+ Registration Database

A key component of COM+ is the COM+ Registration database (C:\Windows\Registration\*). To manage the COM+ Registration database click on Administrative Tools -> Component Services.

NTBACKUP backs up the COM+ Registration database as part of the System State.

Internet Information Services depends on the COM+ Registration database. If you move the IIS metabase, UMove will move the COM+ database also.
