WinPE or WinRE Not Necessary

The Windows Pre-Execution Environment (WinPE) is used to initially install Windows Server 2008 on a new computer. The Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) is used to recover Windows Server 2008 if it cannot boot.

When you prepare the destination computer for UMove, it is not necessary to boot using WinPE or WinRE.

UMove can load Active Directory while Windows is running. On Windows Server 2000 or 2003, UMove will automatically boot into Directory Services Restore Mode (DSRM) if required.

See Directory Services Restore Mode.
